Abstract

We present the Elastodynamic Mechanical Analyzer (EMA), an instrument for characterizing the mechanical properties of soft materials at the high strain rates relevant to latch-mediated spring actuated (LaMSA) systems and other fast, small-scale elastic mechanisms, where conventional mechanical testing approaches are difficult to apply.
